Best Places to Pick Pumpkins?

Hampshire

Located in the South Downs National Park, we have to recommend Rogate Pumpkin Patch. It has rows and rows of pumpkins, from funky looking gourds to warty squashes, there is plenty to choose from. Every October this family-run farm showcases loads of seasonal fun, not just pumpkins. There are Halloween themed games, spooky trails and a shop to pick some locally produced autumn treats to take home with you.


Fordingbridge, just at the edge of the New Forest National Park, is home to The Picking Patch. Where you can adventure the 10 acres of vibrant colours to find your perfect pumpkin. Beyond the fields, there are loads of Halloween activities for families, such as crafts, games and even a Halloween maze. There is no need to book, so just pop along whenever you and your family feel like an autumn trip out.


It’s that time of year again where Sunnyfields Farm transforms into a pumpkin wonderland! Based in Southampton this family-run farm doesn’t go lightly this time of year, there is always so much to do here for the whole family, and this year is no different. The Glow Trail is back, for the Pumpkin Time 2025 event. This trail is an indoor, fun, glow in the dark trail and this year there are 6 new immersive rooms! Tickets are £6.50 each for Pumpkin Time but they are going fast, so be quick. Pumpkin Time is a great family experience, if you love all things autumn and celebrating Halloween then this is the place for you.


At Pickwell Farm, there is more than just pumpkins on offer. Here you can have the pick of the patch of all sorts of seasonal produce, like corn straight from the stalk, just 50p each or
freshly picked runner beans from the vines (harvest season is usually September to October but be sure to check the farm before planning your visit). If you don’t use the runner beans straight away, they are perfect for freezing. Please note, dogs are not allowed in the picking fields. Pickwell Farm is open from 9am until 5pm from Monday to Saturday and 9am until 4pm on Sundays.


Families don’t just go home with a pumpkin from Droxford Pumpkin Patch at Lycroft Farm, they go home with incredible memories too. It’s the perfect place to spend an autumn afternoon exploring the vast fields of colourful patches. Families can freely roam the field for their perfect pumpkin whilst enjoying the scenic views. If you get peckish, there are farm stalls selling seasonal snacks and friendly staff. Droxford Pumpkin Patch doesn’t just have pumpkins though; there are also amazing Halloween activities for families too. From hay bales mazes to fun tractor rides and loads of great photo opportunities for the album.

Sussex

As soon as the leaves change Tulleys Pumpkin Farm hosts the most spectacular autumn experiences. It is one of the top spots for families in Sussex wanting more than just a pumpkin. It has to be the best pumpkin patch near London. Families can wander through the huge field of orange gems and nosey around the market stalls available here. Stalls usually offer funky gourds and autumn decorations to celebrate this season in style. Food is also available here, as well as seasonal treats and hot drinks. Your little ones will love the characters roaming the fields, they bring that touch of family magic to your pumpkin picking experience you didn’t know you needed. With plenty of parking, friendly staff and wheelbarrows to help lug those huge pumpkins back to the car, Tully’s is the perfect farm for that classic autumn charm.


Head over to Rodmell South Farm for a family day filled with all sorts of autumnal fun. Their Pick Your Own Pumpkin event is back for 2025! This family-run farm grows pumpkins right on site where you can cut the stalk of your perfect pumpkin straight from the ground, it doesn’t get much fresher than this. Every October for the last 10 years this farm opens its gates to families across the country, rain or shine. The fields are open between 10am and 4pm every day. They have a huge variety of pumpkins, every size imaginable. So why not wander through the field and let your little ones pick their perfect pumpkin. With plenty of free parking, what are you waiting for?
If you’re looking for an autumn experience with seasonal sweet treats, then Arundel Pumpkin Patch is the place to go. There is so much to keep the family busy here, from fun craft stalls to cool photo installations, not to mention free entry! The patch itself is covered
with fun orange, yellow, white and green pumpkins and is open on weekends all throughout October. Even every day in half term too, just remember to bring the wellies. If you are looking for a great Halloween half term activity, then this really is the perfect place to make lifelong autumn memories.


Autumn in Sussex is absolutely beautiful at Bignor Pumpkin Patch. This pumpkin patch is full of autumn charm and makes for a really enjoyable family day out. Wander through the acres of field, looking at all the different shapes and sizes of the colourful gourds and squashes. With free admission and wheelbarrows ready for borrowing, it makes it all the easier to create wonderful memories with friends and family. There are also warming drinks and snacks available here with plenty of parking. The patch opens its gates in October and is open until the end of the month, even though half term! Bignor Pumpkin Patch just makes for a lovely day, a day you and your family will look back on fondly.

Dorset

At Farmers Palmer’s Farm Park there is so much for your little ones to explore, this has to be on your pumpkin patch list this year! From bouncy castles to tractor rides and outdoor play areas, if the weather takes a turn for the worst, there is an indoor play area too. This award-winning attraction is carefully designed with families in mind. Little ones can hand feed the animals here, offering children an educational but fun experience. In partnership with the National History Museum, take part in the World of Dinosaur Roar Discovery Trail. Follow the exciting trail and learn about dinosaurs through the activity and displays along the way.


Why not enjoy a warming seasonal drink whilst choosing your perfect pumpkin at the Cat and Fiddle Farm and Cafe. Get the whole family in the spooky spirit as the farm pops with colour and seasonal flavours this year. Stomp around in your wellies and explore the fields. The on-site cafe offers a beautiful selection of homemade cakes and warming drinks. There’s also a farm shop here, selling seasonal produce like funky squashes and root vegetables grown on-site. With its welcoming atmosphere and down-to-earth manner, this is a great place to come and enjoy the simple joys of autumn as a whole family.


Join Gorcombe Pumpkins from 1st October at the ‘Pick a Pumpkin event’. Families can explore a huge selection of pumpkins, all shapes, sizes and colours. The field will have plenty of fun seasonal activities to keep your little ones smiling and entertained. Opening from 1st October until 31st October 2025, the field opens at 9am and closes at 4pm daily.


Located in the stunning countryside of Dorset, just outside Bridport, Washingpool Farm is preparing a great pumpkin picking event at their farm shop. This year the farmers expect their pumpkin fields to open later on in October, depending on how quickly the pumpkins ripen. Be sure to check before planning your visit. This is a working farm and has an award-winning farm shop on-site, selling their own produce, from beef to root vegetables and eggs. However, as this is a working farm, all dogs must be kept on a lead.


Another great pumpkin farm to consider for your pumpkin picking this year is Bincombe Bumps Pumpkins. With loads of Halloween activities for families and a cafe this is a must visit. Opening this year on 4th October for weekends and throughout half term, there is more than enough to get stuck into. From pumpkin picking and face painting to freaky fancy dress and a haunted house, don your wellies and get ready for an amazing autumn day.


A Few Tips When Picking Pumpkins Be sure to book tickets early (if needed). To avoid crowds, go earlier in the day, pumpkin patches can get very busy. If you have something to wheel your pumpkins around, be sure to pack it just in case, wheelbarrows are usually provided but at busier times they may be limited. Wear grippy, hard wearing shoes and be prepared for mud and why not take advantage of the photo opportunities there.
What To Do with Your Pumpkin Once It’s Carved?

  • After Halloween you could donate it to a local zoo or animal shelter after Halloween.
  • Wash, season and roast the seeds to eat.
  • Wash the seeds and put them out for the birds.
  • Make meals like soup, roast pumpkin or pumpkin bread.
  • Improve the nutrients in your garden soil and compost them.
