The fun doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down, especially now as autumn is officially here and the evenings are growing dark earlier. Whether it’s a school night or a weekend adventure, there are so many local family friendly evening events that can help you share that community spirit and create unforgettable memories. This year, we have gathered a list of some of our favourite events happening this autumn/winter to get you and your family in the festive mood. 

Light Up Trails at Sir Harold Hillier Gardens

Date: From Thursday 27th November 2025 to Saturday 3rd January 2026 
Time: From 4:30pm until 8pm (Please note: these times depend on the dates available) 

 This November, all the way through up until Saturday 3rd January 2026, Sir Harold Hiller Gardens will turn into a luminous wonderland! Families are invited to wander through the grounds. Where you will find trees and pathways lit up with sparkling and glowing sculptures. This trail is also carefully designed with little ones and accessibility needs in mind, with fully accessible routes, everyone can share the magic this event has to offer. There are even cosy spots for you to enjoy warming drinks and seasonal snacks from local vendors. The late opening makes this a great after school treat or even a fun weekend outing. So, whether you’re wanting a quiet stroll or simply wanting some festive sparkle, Light Up Trails at Sir Harold Hiller Gardens are just perfect.  

Glow Marwell Light Trail at Marwell Zoo

Date: From Friday 28th November 2025 to Saturday 3rd January 2026 (Please note this is Thursday to Sunday until the school holidays and then daily over the Christmas period). 

Time: From 5pm until 8pm 

 This magical light trail through the zoo is an absolute must this festive season. It is perfect for a family friendly evening. It is a real treat watching the lights twinkle and once it gets dark the path glows with beautiful illuminations, themed displays and interactive light features. It is a gentle, yet magical adventure designed for little ones. You won’t want to miss it, just don’t forget to wrap up warm. 

Christmas Light Switch on and Christmas Market at West End Parish Council

Date: Saturday 29th November 2025 

Time: From 2:30pm until 7:30pm 

 Mark your calendars and get ready for this year’s magical evening at the West End Parish Council Christmas Light Switch on. Taking place at the heart of West End Village, this family event is free and well loved by locals. This year, from 2:30pm, you can expect live music, yummy season treats and a Christmas market. At the market there will be loads of children’s activities from seasonal games and face painting to glitter tattoos and funfair inspired games, you can even meet Santa! The light switch on starts at 6:30pm giving families loads of time to soak up the community atmosphere and seasonal entertainment. This is a really good option for families who want something different to their usual routine but don’t want to stay out too late.  

Christmas at Paulton’s Park in Hampshire

Date: From Saturday 6th December 2025 to Saturday 3rd January 2026 
Time: From 10am until 4:30pm (when rides close) 

 There is something special about Paulton’s Park during the festive period. The park transforms into a winter wonderland, filled from top to bottom with sparkly lights and music, there is even the opportunity for little ones to meet Santa. There will be festive performances and stunning illuminations, and of course Peppa Pig World will be decorated for the season too. We believe this has to be at the top of your family events list this year as it really has something for everyone. 

Carols By Candlelight at Milestones Museum 2025

Date: Saturday 13th December 2025 
Time: From 6pm 

 This family friendly event allows you to step back in time, where the streets will be decked and traditional Christmas carols will be sung. This evening event is full of community warmth and loads of nostalgia for you. There will be live music, seasonal treats available and you have the opportunity to explore the museum. This is ideal for families who want to experience the Christmas joy without the crowds.  

The Snowman 2025 at Romsey Abbey

Date: Saturday 20th December 2025 

Time: 4pm and 5:30 pm 

 If you’re looking for a special way to celebrate the festive season this year, we think The Snowman at Romsey Abbey is a must. Taking place in the stunning surroundings of Romsey Abbey, this Christmas classic will come to life on Saturday 20th December 2025. It is ideal for families who want to create special memories with their loved ones whilst experiencing some nostalgia. It combines live music with incredible animation we all know and love. If you’re interested in this event, be sure to grab your tickets early as they tend to sell out fast.
